I completed two years full time training in Pilates Matwork and studio based rehabilitation with the Pilates Foundation in June 2004. My interest in Pilates began during my joint honours degree in dance and music in 1996 and has complimented my work in community and educational dance settings. This includes choreographic projects with other artists in Derby City primary and secondary schools, choreographic commissions from VIVA! (East of England Orchestra), classes for children aged 3+ and older dancers at Déda (Derby Dance Centre) and part-time lecturing in Choreography, Dance History and the Relationships between Dance and Music at Derby University. In 2007 Groom's Cottage Pilates Studio opened in Wirksworth in a joint venture with a Pilates friend and colleague . Pilates work undertaken so far includes:
A Project at Wirksworth Infant Schools aimed to encourage children's interest and awareness of their own bodies and explore ways of looking after them through movement, flexibility, strength and relaxation. The emphasis of the class was on a fun movement session that was underpinned with Pilates principals that included elements of alignment, balance, co-ordination and relaxation
At the Voicebox, Derby offered a beginners course for students in Voices Girls Choir
At Peartree Infant School, Derby was an introduction to Pilates focussing on the practical application of Pilates principals such as looking after their own bodies when working with small children
For young singers from Cantamus girls choir, Mansfield and Cantabile choir, Nuneaton
At Déda (Derby Dance Centre), Ashbourne Adult Ed, Bolehill
Music is an important part of my life and I am interested in working with choirs/singers within my Pilates teaching. I run a singing group at Waltham House Care Home in Wirksworth for residents and older people living in the town. I sing with the Richard Roddis Singers and write and perform my own songs. I am keen for acoustic music to be a part of the other activities at the Coach House.

Pilates has restored my physical strength and flexibility and changed the way I move.
Pilates has restored my optimism and the way I think about my body.
Pilates sessions are a source of joy
